Three Year Old
Teachers:Sue and LindsayThe children in this class range from 2.9 years to early 4's. Our activities and schedule are structured with many opportunities for free play through out. Morning circle includes stories, songs, games and discussion regarding the theme of that particular day, week or month. You will here songs like "Good Morning" and "The Days of the week", sang very enthusiastically. Our daily activities are also theme based and include a variety of arts and crafts using different mediums and incorporating science, math and sensory experiences. We then have snack, free play, gross motor or outdoor play and second circle with dismissal at 12:00PM. The remaining children have lunch and rest before getting ready for the rest of their day. This time of day is more relaxed and includes snack time, quiet games and more outdoor play. In addition to academic activities, we are primarily focused with the development of the children's social and self help skills. Throughout the school year, we work with them in areas such as initiating play with their peers, sharing, participating in group games and activities which foster friendships and social competence. Our self help goals include things like using the bathroom on their own, cleaning up after themselves, putting on their own shoes and socks and learning to work independently with art and other materials.
Our philosophy on discipline and behavior management focuses on positive reinforcement which compliments and encourages positive behavior, rather than having consequences for negative behavior. We have found that this system promotes positive self esteem and teamwork among the children as they learn to express their own needs through language.
