Pre-kindergarten
Teachers: Lynne & RobinCranberry Crossing is very pleased to announce that we will be lengthening our Pre kindergarten program for children who are one year away from kindergarten. Starting in September 2008 Carver public schools are adopting a full day Kindergarten which is now offered at Sacred Heart and in Middleboro. Our pre kindergarten program will increase from a three to a four hour day to better prepare your child in many important areas.
Our curriculum will be enriched as we will have an extended time for circle and activity time. We will still be studying a letter a week and will supplement the study with songs, activities, books, sight words, and an over all curriculum unit. We ask you to help us by sending in a show and tell for the letter of the week on the days that your child attends. Our class will be writing, illustrating and reading the books that we make every week. These books will be sent home on a rotating basis to encourage reading at home.
One of the areas that we will focus on will be the self help skills that your child will need to be successful in a full day kindergarten setting. We will work on putting on shoes and socks, jackets (with zippers and buttons), opening up their lunch box and being able to get their lunch, snacks, and drinks opened independently and also to be able to eat and drink in a timely manner.
All of these areas will be enhanced, as always, by outdoor play, social time in a our block and dramatic play areas, important computer skills for their future in school and life, caring for the pets we have in our science area, and lots and lots of fun in our art and writing areas.
We have always felt that children do best when they progress at a good pace. Previously we statistically found that 2, three hour days progressed nicely to 3, three hour days and then to 5 kindergarten half days. In 2008 we are looking for your preschool children to go from 2 three hour days at 3-4 years old to 3 - four hour days at the Pre-K level to possibly 3 six hour days in May/June 2009, to be best prepared for 5 six hour days when they enter kindergarten.
Our professional staff has a combined total of over forty years experience in this age group and is anxious to prepare your children in the most wonderful time of their lives. We invite you and your child to visit us and see our program in session. We ask you to speak to our parent's board and ask questions of other parents about the program and their perspective. We will be glad to provide them with your phone number.
